I like to think that Sia is the sneaky powerhouse behind all of the best pop songs that we hear on the radio waves today. The self-admitted Australian weirdo has been producing and creating some of the most evocative music in recent memory. It may seem a little over the top to be referring to pop music as evocative- but in Sia's case I think it really holds true. She's a gifted lyricist and performer and has been working steadily behind the scenes with some of the industry's most well known names for many years. She's helped pen songs for Shakira, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Katy Perry, David Guetta and even Flo Rida. All of which I'm sure you've caught yourself singing along to in the car once or twice. Admit it- Titanium was golden. She also wrote the lyrics and melody for Rhianna's song Diamonds and contributed back up vocals to Tegan and Sara's Hearthrob album. How does one woman, who's suffering from an auto-immune disorder do all this when I had trouble choosing which pants to wear this morning? I just don't even know. *sidenote: said pants have already been spilled on and I now have a coffee stain of shame that I have to wear all day.
And so it seems, Sia has done it again with this beautiful collaboration with The Weeknd & Diplo that I think solidifies her as one of pop music most undersold talents. I think she's just fantastic- her video's are weird, she makes dramatic declarations of quitting the industry only to come back and right Grammy award winning songs for Christina Aguilera, she's bisexual, plays the xylophone and used to play in an acid jazz band called Crisp. What's acid jazz you ask? I assume it involves a combination of LSD and trumpets, but who's to say. So take in a little Sia this morning and hopefully familiarize yourself with one of pop music's most important assets.
All the love ladywooders,
