Ladywood lovers! Let me introduce you to Ladyfrnd: a musical collaboration between Yuki Holland and Peter Ricq (from our favorite indie electro duo Humans). The Vancouver-based pair released their self-titled debut album today through Hybridity Music, which includes 12 tracks showcasing their raw euphonic talents.
Holland's ethereal sound was cultivated at a young age on Vancouver Island where she played the ukulele and sang "amidst sibling dishwashing choruses and housecleaning rhapsodies." Ricq's path to music, conversely, included a Roland MC-303, the original groovebox for techno/dance. At age 15, he started experimenting with electronic music and the "myriad realms of sound" in his hometown outside of Montreal.
Like magnets, the polarity of their musical background drew them together to produce the unique sound that is Ladyfrnd.
Serendipitously Holland and Ricq's paths crossed one evening in Victoria, and now the two "seduce listeners with their romantic union of electronic soundscapes, simple yet modernly soulful lyrics, and a touch of island luau to inspire soft swaying in the twilight hours".
I highly recommend giving this EP a listen, so go grab it off their bandcamp. Ricq's minimalist production combines perfectly with Holland's soft dreamlike vocals. I'm very much in love with the track "Un Petit Message" just like these two are very much in love with each other. Bottom line: love creates good music. -Hannah
