Bonobo's DJ set on Friday evening at Republik turned the normally subdued club into a venue of reckless abandon. Purposefully lurking at the back of the stage, it seemed that Simon Green's (Bonobo) music was coming from the shadows. His mixture of dulcet tones and crashing electronic crescendos found a perfect home in the amped up Calgary crowd. Bonobo's music, which many times is more associated with a lazy sunday afternoon in the park was definitely an interesting match with the intimate venue and while the music certainly got ambient at times, Green kept it danceable all night, even at the shows calmer points.
He played a mixture of his older and newer stuff including including hits off of Black Sands like “We Could Forever” and “Ketto” from the Days to Come album and when the time was to exit, he left the stage to a raucously satisfied crowd. Thank you so much Simon and we hope to see you in Calgary again soon.
