Two years ago Arcade Fire won a grammy and people lost their shit. This recognition totally disrupted some people's notion of a pop culture equilibrium and everyone was all like 'Who the fuck is Arcade Fire?'. Even Dog the Bounty Hunter.
But I think @MollyMoney really hit the nail on the head back in 2011 when Arcade Fire made her pose the question - 'is this real life?'
On September 9, Arcade Fire released the first single off their upcoming album, Reflektor. There is something about this song that is almost frightening. The song seems to swirl around perfectly with all it's layers, like smoke and mirrors, both nostalgic and futuristic.
Is it James Murphy? perhaps. Is it David Bowie? possibly. Is it Regine's apocalyptic chorus? most likely. The voodoo beats? maybe.
The song has been on repeat for the last two days but it still seems too big to process. Arcade Fire have this rare and unique ability to create the most effortlessly epic music - it seems to be coming from another world. Or another life.
Is this real life?
'See you on the other side'
