I know we've gushed about Ellie Goulding countless times on this site, but she continues to amaze me. The latest from the Goulding camp is this short film by Roger Mitchell of Notting Hill, where she stars along side Dylan Edwards. The film called Tom & Issy was shot entirely on the Nokia Lumia 1020 and features the latest single How Long Will I Love You of off her album Halcyon Days .
The short film is dreamy without being precious. It captures the essence of youthful longing surrounded by a perfectly shabby chic London. Ellie, in her first acting role ( let's not include emoting in music video's as "acting"...I'm looking at you Justin Timberlake) is sweet and natural alongside Edwards. While she's not winning any Oscars anytime soon, I appreciate it when an artist delves into different mediums; creative energy isn't always expressed in the same way over and over again, so seeking other avenues for expression is understandable. I especially appreciate it when the alternative artistic pursuit remains authentic to the person, when it feels genuine and believable, which I think this short accomplishes. It's not groundbreaking cinema but its simple and relatable and showcases Ellie's music very well. It's a good example of how artists can integrate branding and self-promotion in an un-offensive way and creative way.
Oh and if you haven't watched the British show Misfits, watch it as soon as possible, Dylan Edwards has a bitpart in the 3 season and its currently streaming on Netflix. So you don't even have to put on pants to watch it. What better motivation could there be?
