Today we have two beautiful videos, from two very different but equally good bands, that both highlight the wonderful but often under represented art of synchronized swimming. Now, we've posted music videos that feature synchro before, but what I thought was a one off, is now turning out to be kind of a trend. As a former synchronized swimmer myself- this is a trend I can get behind. Below are videos from the Bombay Bicycle Club and Y La Bamba, both pay tribute to the aquatic arts in some form or another throughout.
For their latest single, "Luna", the Bombay Bicycle Club invited the acrobatically-inclined group "Aquabatix" (get it?) to create a dreamy synchronized sequence of splashing, gymnastics, vintage costumes and even a little pyrotechnics.
Y La Bamba, the indie folk sextet from Portland, recruited local experimental dance group The Olivia Darlings to demonstrate the art of synchronized swimming. Shot with a 16mm camera amongst the Redwoods and the Puget Sound, the gorgeous short film is an ode to natural beauty and the quirky wonders of the Pacific Northwest. Its got a fantastic Portlandia vibe to it that I can really get behind. -C
