Our contributing writer Kate, was able to make it to Shad's show at Republik on November 27. In addition to being exceptionally lovely, Kate also has outstanding taste in music which is why we aggressively recruited her to cover the Old Prince's show on Wednesday night. Check it out below, and thank you Kate, from the bottom of our Ladywoods.
For those of you who were out and about in Calgary on Wednesday night, I am hoping you were able to go and check out SHAD at Republik.
Shad, with his free flowing lyrical poems, took the stage and had the whole of Republik listening to every string of words that came tumbling out of his mouth. From the minute he walked on stage the energy in the room was high. Shad brought back some old school songs from The Old Prince album, released in 2007, and mixed in his new beats from, FLYING COLOURS, released October 15, 2013. My personal favorite was his live version of Progress, when the musicians fell into the back ground and all of Republik became entranced in his expressive words with no back beat. I think I really saw how cute he was in that moment.
And as always, the perks of seeing music live; we all were privy to a little addition at the end of Progress, and experienced Shad’s free flowing rap, solo. If you haven’t checked him out I recommend doing so, he’s been flying under the radar for some time now, but he’s getting up there so be sure to check out his music, old and new.
