There’s almost no better feeling than walking blindly into a show and getting your mind blown. Just your regular Wednesday night turned into a groovy dance party where Ladywood jammed to Natasha Kmeto and Lapalux. I hadn't really heard of these two artists before so I had very little expectation…and man was I pleasantly surprised by the talent that was pumping out of the Hifi Club.
Natasha Kmeto is not your typical girl DJ. This alt-electro producer hails from Portland, Oregon and sings while mixing soulful bass. Carefully crafting deep house beats, she layers on her sultry vocals, looping them into a mesmerizing soundscape that draws you in for the entire set and keeps you wanting more. Her new album Crisis was release in June and is available on bandcamp or iTunes. Check it out, for serious.
The second act of the evening showcased the talents of Lapalux, aka Stuart Howard, who's just starting his debut in North America. After releasing his first full-length album in March, this UK fellow is touring touring Nostalchic - 13 tracks of dreamy, experimental smoothness. Whatever that means. His performance was chill but and his beats kept you moving, so if he's coming to your city, get off you computer and go check it out.
