Australian singer/songwriter Matt Corby has a hauntingly soulful sound. His scruffy, Aussie surfer boy appearance is set off by his surprisingly falsetto voice and his sharp blue wise eyes make him appear older than his 22 years. His latest track Resolution is the first taste from his new album coming up for release later this year. “The song was written in this little dingy LA apartment I’ve been living in for the last few months…That’s where I’ve made some of this album” Corby explains. Resolution stems from the love/hate relationship he has with LA, a sentiment echoed by many up and coming artists who move to the city seeking success. LA can be both welcoming and alienating, but it's that juxtaposition of struggle and triumph that breeds creativity. Corby says that it was the lousy conditions he was living in when he first moved to LA that inspired the album's creation:
“I got a little paranoid and I didn’t really leave the house for a couple of days. I couldn’t understand why I was so afraid of the world at this time so I wrote ‘Resolution’. It’s an ode to humanity and the way I want to be with other people and spread some love in an un-cheesy way.”
