The Nylon blog is an endless source of inspiration for us at Ladywood music. From cool fashion, to great tunes Nylon has been a staple go to publication for all things trendy for years. This week they have the exclusive release of Laura Welsh's video for Unravel. The song is produced and co-written by industry sweetheart Dev Hynes, which is basically like getting a big fat shiny stamp of approval from the music community. Like Nylon says, it's a sign that even if no one has heard of you or your music yet, if Hynes thinks you're worthwhile, you probably are. He's worked with Solange and Sky Ferreira in the past and this sumptuous video with Laura Welsh is a great addition to his portfolio.
The singer-songwriter has quietly been making waves since 2010 with her soulful voice, by performing the kind of piano driven, melodic jazz and blues pop that's reminiscent of Florence Welsh. Yet her latest tune is far more muted and less brassy than her previous releases, and bears little resemblance to Flo, which I think is great. Not that Flo isn't great, she's the greatest, I almost cried/had a mental breakdown at her performance at Coachella last year because she looked me right in the eyeballs, so she's pretty amazing. It's just that different is good too.
This video, which I think is the perfect accompaniment to the song outlines the bitter sweet truth of the push and pull of relationships. Sometimes you just keep going back, however bad of an idea it is.

Here's another tune of her's Hollow Drum.
