I wanted to give you guys a quick geography lesson so here it is on a map. Australia is very far away. Like really far away but Vance Joy is picking up so many international followers he is coming to our lovely city to play some songs. Lucky us! Recently Vance signed a deal with Atlantic Records so we will definitely be seeing his face much more in North America. This will be his first solo tour in Canada and he's scheduled to play eight major cities. Sept.12 is the date he will be strumming his ukulele and serenading the crowd at Commonwealth Bar and you my friends have a chance to win TWO FREE TICKETS! That's right ladywood lovers if you click on that button below and tell us what you think Vance Joy eats for breakfast you have a chance to win 2 tickets to the Sept.12 show. We were super excited to get in touch with Vance before his much anticipated Canadian tour and we got to know the mysterious man a little bit better. Its always a treat to learn a little bit more about the artists we really look up to. Even though Vance Joy is relatively new to the music scene he seems quite talented. I'm looking forward to seeing Vance live as I'm sure his YouTube videos do him no justice. Vance's single 'Riptide' from his EP God Loves When You're Dancing just went Gold in Australia and almost every one of his August bookings has sold out. With such a busy life to look forward to we asked Vance where his happy place is and he said "probably the local coffee shop with my friends." Its nice to see that Vance enjoys moments with good company regardless of his recently hectic schedule. When asked how his friends would describe him Vance claimed they would say he's a good bloke. I personally think they hate him but I didn't want to mention it. I mean he's just too magical with his beautiful voice and instrumental talent he would never make me feel good about myself. I mean isn't that what friends are there for..to be much worse at things you are really good at. When asked what the process for making a song is like Vance said its extremely variable and doesn't have a set pattern; "it usually involves a lot of self criticism and practice." He explained that you are constantly trying to stick things together and trying to make them fit. I would say Mr.Joy did a very fine job with his EP because each and every one of songs leaves me with an insightful impression of good music. Vance said he really looks up to people in the music industry who are writing great songs. Its the "people who can hit the nerve with a great line or riff or sound" that we should be watching and that Vance personally admires. Nowadays its difficult to know where the good music lies, amongst high volumes of internet traffic, but Vance said that maybe that could be a good thing since "you can start somewhere and go on a crazy journey of discovery." I know from personal experience that I've found myself extremely excited by the beautiful and unknown songs I've found from unchartered internet adventures.
Once again Sept.12th is the date every Calgarian should come down to Commonwealth Bar and hear Vance Joy create delightful music live. Lets give Vance a good impression of our vibrant city because he admitted to having little knowledge about Calgary but "that it looks beautiful."
