Yesterday was the annual gay pride parade in Calgary and with all the heat circling gay rights I thought the video of Macklemore singing with Teagan and Sarah would be a nice fit. Ladywood is an open and supportive platform of equality for every single beautiful person on this planet, and we think it's important to illustrate this as much as we can. For these reasons I feel very connected to the song 'Same Love'; the first time I heard the track I was brought to tears. The multi-layered beauty of this song is immeasurable and something we haven't seen much of in hip-hop. Sure Macklemore isnt a hip-hop heavy weight but the courage it took for him to step up and take a stand amazes me. It could have backfired on him, and cost him his career but speaking out for his beliefs meant more than that. That's true bravery in my eyes. Homosexuals come from all walks of life so I'm amazed people try and segregate them with their hatred. It makes me sick to think one day we will tell our grand-kids that the 2014 Winter Olympics disallowed being openly gay. When it comes down to it relationships are just love, whether towards a man or woman. People right now are still physically, verbally and emotionally abused for their desires to love in alignment with what's truly in their hearts. "Love is blind," as Macklemore says and I hope for the sake of morality we realize this some day soon.
One extra video of Tegan and Sarah because they are from Calgary and are cool kids!
