These Swedish sisters play their own brand of feathery light indie folk music, that saw them reach a surprising level of fame at a young age when their cover of Fleet Foxes "Tiger Mountain
Peasant Song" went viral on YouTube.
In this album, their songs never lose their chamber choir type potency, but they do have a distinctly lighter tone then their previous releases. Yet despite the lighter tone, their lyrics never lose the heft we are used to seeing from the duo: "I'd rather be broken than empty / I'd rather be shattered than hollow," the Söderbergs sing in "Shattered & Hollow." They are still the sweetly optimistic singers we have come to now but now there is a hidden edge to their delivery. The song Master Pretender has the girls singing about how through lifes unexpected pains and sadness's that they've hardened and are stronger then they thought they were- that they can get through it all now, as a Master Pretender. Even when a song like "The Bell" never accelerates beyond a lightly lilting amble, there's still a potency to it. These girls are brimming with talent and I welcome any time I can see them live, their beautiful brand of charming Swedish folk will always be high on my playlists. I hope you enjoy your first listen and make sure to pick up the album on itunes! -C
