We covered a teaser of First Aid Kit's latest release earlier this year, and today we can finally release the first listen of the highly anticipated album. Click here to check out NPR's first Listen of Stay Gold Or click on the picture to the left.
These Swedish sisters play their own brand of feathery light indie folk music, that saw them reach a surprising level of fame at a young age when their cover of Fleet Foxes "Tiger Mountain
Peasant Song" went viral on YouTube.
In this album, their songs never lose their chamber choir type potency, but they do have a distinctly lighter tone then their previous releases. Yet despite the lighter tone, their lyrics never lose the heft we are used to seeing from the duo: "I'd rather be broken than empty / I'd rather be shattered than hollow," the Söderbergs sing in "Shattered & Hollow." They are still the sweetly optimistic singers we have come to now but now there is a hidden edge to their delivery. The song Master Pretender has the girls singing about how through lifes unexpected pains and sadness's that they've hardened and are stronger then they thought they were- that they can get through it all now, as a Master Pretender. Even when a song like "The Bell" never accelerates beyond a lightly lilting amble, there's still a potency to it. These girls are brimming with talent and I welcome any time I can see them live, their beautiful brand of charming Swedish folk will always be high on my playlists. I hope you enjoy your first listen and make sure to pick up the album on itunes! -C
Ouch ouch you're on my hair and other fun games to play in the dark. (But actually just check out this up and coming Calgary DJ)
Maybe you visited the quaint Shire of Noosa on one of your Australian adventures up the Sunshine Coast. Or maybe this is the first time you've heard of the sun-soaked Aussie destination. Either way, the sights and sounds of this tropical locale seem to permeate every ounce of its essence, Which is also why Noosa- the electro pop group inspired by the Australian Oasis, seems to make such authentically happy music. It is impenetrably gleeful music, but with enough lyrical resonance that the music never strays into that treacly pop music genre. The music has a good balance of grandeur and innocence, and is a great mid-afternoon pick me up. I love the latest single, Sail. Hope you enjoy it! C
It seems like the kind of day when we could all use a little bit of a step down-something chill and soothing and calming with a touch of mystery. Thanks to the musical recommendations of Shimms we have a track by the elusive Zhu who has finally dropped his Nightday EP. The six-track collection includes the previously-released “Superfriends,” “Faded” and “Paradise Awaits” along with new tracks “The One,” “Stay Closer” and, our featured track, “Cocaine Model.” Zhu’s vocals appear front and center on “Cocaine Model,” in which the Cali artist serenades the listener with a sexy R&B narrative. Even though we still don't know who Zhu is (he's like the daft punk of the emerging electro dj world) we can’t help but feel like we know him a little bit more after hearing this electro-soul gem. Give “Cocaine Model” a listen below. Thanks to S for the tip!!
Considering how I'm definitely carrying around some extra winter padding, Mr. Little Jeans seems like a pretty apropos name for my fashion sense right now.
Or maybe "Miss Jeans too Tight" would be better. Either way, take a listen to this excruciatingly talented group of musicians making music right now under the pseudonym, Mr. Little Jeans. The soundcloud playlist below is a mere tidbit of the groups musical talent. My favourite track of the bunch is their cover/reinterpretation of TLC's Waterfalls , but you may recognize Oh Sailor , from our fav music sharing site- Hype Machine where its been getting some serious traction. Make sure to check us out and follow all of our ladywood worthy hypem tracks there! Hope you like Mr. Little Jeans. I'm now going to go spend a few moments day-dreaming about sandy beaches and crop tops. Damn you winter weight!! Damn you. - C
I'm digging this cover of this Tears for Fears classic. Bear Mountain has been consistently producing really engaging music for a few years now and I hope 2014 brings them the larger scale they deserve. Enjoy! -C
