We covered a teaser of First Aid Kit's latest release earlier this year, and today we can finally release the first listen of the highly anticipated album. Click here to check out NPR's first Listen of Stay Gold Or click on the picture to the left.
These Swedish sisters play their own brand of feathery light indie folk music, that saw them reach a surprising level of fame at a young age when their cover of Fleet Foxes "Tiger Mountain
Peasant Song" went viral on YouTube.
In this album, their songs never lose their chamber choir type potency, but they do have a distinctly lighter tone then their previous releases. Yet despite the lighter tone, their lyrics never lose the heft we are used to seeing from the duo: "I'd rather be broken than empty / I'd rather be shattered than hollow," the Söderbergs sing in "Shattered & Hollow." They are still the sweetly optimistic singers we have come to now but now there is a hidden edge to their delivery. The song Master Pretender has the girls singing about how through lifes unexpected pains and sadness's that they've hardened and are stronger then they thought they were- that they can get through it all now, as a Master Pretender. Even when a song like "The Bell" never accelerates beyond a lightly lilting amble, there's still a potency to it. These girls are brimming with talent and I welcome any time I can see them live, their beautiful brand of charming Swedish folk will always be high on my playlists. I hope you enjoy your first listen and make sure to pick up the album on itunes! -C
Here's a neato little soundcloud playlist I made for your enjoyment. There's a little bit of everything in there. Some chill electro house, hip hop, new age and indie pop. There's some tried and true ladywood favourites and some new up and comers too. Hope you enjoy! -C
I have the solution to cure your PCD (post Coachella depression) my friends. All you have to do is follow these simple steps and your worrisome ways will be gone in the blink of a sand filled eye.
1). Keep your Coachella bracelet on as long as possible so every person who interacts with you has a reason to ask you about it
2). Wear nothing but crop tops and high waisted shorts. See-through shirts and floppy hats also fit the bill.
3). Start drinking at about 10am every day. If you were camping feel free to keep your beer in a non-refrigerated location because a luke warm beer will bring you back to that happy place.
4). Just yell Happy Coachella all the time; in the shower, walking down the street and to the neighbour's dog. It makes everyone feel great.
5). Make sure what happened at Coachella takes over 95% of what you say to people. Talk about it so much that friends who weren't there don't want to hang out anymore. Those friends just don't get it anyways so fuck 'em.
6). Make random meeting spots for friends in the streets instead of in conventional bars or stores. Tell them "meet me at the bear statue on 10th street" or "find the red flag above the old renaissance building." It's so so so fun to search for hours and find your friends only sometimes.
7). Pick up smoking and talk so loudly that you lose your voice immediately. All who left Coachella with crisp vocal chords did not do it right.
8). Listen to your favourite Coachella tracks over and over and over and over again.
Here are some photos and musical highlights from our trip. My personal favourites were Rudimental, ZZ Ward, Flume, Banks, Disclosure, Nas, HAIM, the Knife, Kid Cudi. Chromeo, and Pharrall. There was magic in the air of that beautiful place and we once again feel blessed to have experienced it all. If you don't want to hear these songs because they aren't the freshest things on the streets then I say to you "shut your dirty little mouth" Happy Coachella!! -Rayray
