Fat Freddy’s Drop are a New Zealand seven-piece band from Wellington, whose musical style has been characterised as any combination of dub, reggae, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues and techno. In 2013, the band released their fifth studio album called Blackbird, which I highly recommend you check out. The video for Blackbird was directed by Jon Baxter from Perceptual Engineering, who built a 3D model of a blackbird and then set about making it fly and multiply. Baxter's philosophical approach for Blackbird aligns with the darkness of the lyrics by Freddy's vocalist Joe Dukie. "The Blackbird in my garden is often the lingering fear that attacks my creative process and inhibits action. But this can turn out to be the very same force that allows magic to happen, the very thing that gives momentum to dreams and allows us to break through to the other side", Baxter said. That's some wise advice, take it!

Listen Up Ladywood Lovers!
Today we have a very special announcement:
Ladywood Music is proud to launch our very own record label AND we've signed our first Canadian group:
12 Hours Apart
Bio: The physical distance between Sophie Simmons and Ben Cole may literally be 12 hours apart but their ability to connect with music is side by side. Recommended by friends to start making music together, their chemistry was instantaneous and the duo was launched. From Vancouver to Calgary these two Canadians are making their mark in the constantly evolving electronic scene. Listen for Sophie's beautiful voice among Ben's carefully constructed beats and allow the melodies to flow through your body. It's a musical experience where all components matter.
