If you haven't heard about FKA Twigs before- the girl is an absolute revelation. She is by far one of the most uniquely creative musicians performing and writing right now. Her specifically crafted aesthetic is so distinctly her own, and so interesting and strangely beautiful that it seems like her entire life is some sort of never-ending performance art act. She's a mix of vulnerability and strength, passivity and aggressiveness, hot and cold, human and alien, calmness and terror.
As an artist she's accomplished a lot in her 26 years- in addition to a burgeoning music career she is also a fantastic dancer and has been one of the most sought after backup dancers for major performers for a long time and is now also featured in Google glasses latest release- a pretty cool video that FKA twigs stars in and directs. Its a great idea for Google to recruit her- she's pretty cutting edge, something that Google Glass in all their try hard technological glory is also trying pretty desperately to be. We'll see if this combo pays off- hopefully FKA Twigs takes some of the douchebag-ish stigma away from the Google Glass toting "Glassholes". Hope you guys liker her as much as I do! - C
Here's a neat blend of the up and coming melodic house genre of Tropical House with a more of a jazz infused guitar heavy track. We love this crossover mix and hop you do too! - C
For all of you out there fans of chillwave, electro-funk and the new found "booty wave" movement are going to fall in love with Beach Season. This Calgary based duo is kicking off their first tour with a show at Dickens Pub in Calgary this Friday. These guys make incredibly beautiful music that is kind of like a mix of Rhye and Black Atlass and it gives me the feels everytime I listen to it. We sat down with Sam, lead singer of Beach Season to chat about whats coming up for the bad. Check out our interview section for more details. Get your tickets for the show here. -C
Music can meet the ears of anyone with access to internet these days, and this means dope things for all the up and coming artists. Kathleen Murray is the real deal when it comes to Folk music and her music video for Fallen Branches shows her soft versatility.
Here's some new Thomas Jack to help ease you into the weekend on waves of happiness. His latest release, a remix of Ben Sollee’s “Letting Go”, literally has waves he recorded on the beaches of Tulum incorporated into it (man I want this guys life). It is beautiful and relaxing and has a little bit of a Paul Simon meets tropical house vibe to it that I'm really digging. Hope you enjoy!!! -C
